Apple announces new iPod prices and features (Yahoo! News)

The iPod nano and iPod touch are now more affordable

Apple's keynote brought us not only the iPhone 4S, but updates on the pricing and features of the iPod. The Apple iPod might have taken a backseat to the iPhone and iPad in popularity recently, but 45 million units were still sold from July 2010 to June 2011. And you might contribute to its future sales numbers once you see the new features and pricing of the iPod nano and the iPod touch.

The iPod nano, the most compact version introduced last year, now lets you swipe between icons instead of having a grid menu. Its fitness feature now turns the nano into a pedometer without the need for any extraneous accessories or adapters. Want to use the nano as a watch? No problem ? Apple updated the device with 16 new clock faces, a Mickey Mouse one included. The new iPod nanos are available right now. Dubbed as the "most affordable nano ever," the 8GB version costs $129, while the 16GB costs $149.

Apple, of course, hasn't forgotten its most popular iPod, the touch. The iPod touch will run the iOS 5 once it's out on October 12, and some of the new operating system's features fit the device well. iMessage, Apple's unlimited communication medium between iOS devices, works well with iPod's wifi connection, for example. ?The touch can also connect to the Apple iCloud ? Apple's cloud storage service that lets you access your content anytime you wish and anywhere you are, using any iOS device.

A white iPod touch will be available alongside the original black version. Starting October 12, the black and white iPod touch devices will start selling for $399 for the 64GB version, $299 for the 32GB, and $199 for the 8GB.
