Ski Lift Retailer Liftopia Goes White Label, Lets Resorts Add E-Commerce To Their Own Sites

mobile_cloud_MRG[1]Liftopia, the startup offering consumers discounts on ski tickets and other snow-related activities, is today launching a new e-commerce platform for the ticket sellers themselves called "Cloud Store by Liftopia." The service will be offered for free to any mountain resort for use on their own websites (including mobile), starting first in North America, then followed by resorts in Europe. Once up-and-running, Cloud Store allows the resort to sell tickets using variable pricing - similar to how airline tickets, hotel stays and car rentals are sold today.

Sony patent suggests Xperia Play with dual keyboards, it's slidingly slidable

Sony patent suggests an Xperia Play with dual keyboards, it's slidingly slidable

Okay, so maybe physical keyboards were a bigger deal back in 2010 when this thing was filed, or maybe -- just maybe -- we'll one day see an Xperia Play smartphone with both a gamepad and a full QWERTY counterpart. A patent for such a contraption was just granted to Sony by the USPTO, which stakes its claim for a device with two sliding mechanisms in addition to the display. When the primary sliding mechanism is engaged, the second will come along for the ride -- and for those curious, it seems the default option is the keyboard. Once both are open, the sliding units may be disengaged from one another, so that when one of the units retracts, the other will remain accessible. It all sounds quite feasible, and if the mechanism works well enough, what's a few extra millimeters among friends?

Diablo 3 beta throws open doors, this weekend only

Diablo 3, the much-anticipated fantasy game, is scheduled for launch in North America on May 15. In the meantime, you can get your hands on the?Diablo 3?beta version.

Diablo 3: One of the most eagerly-anticipated games in recent memory, and also one of the most frequently delayed. Horizons readers will remember that back in September of last year,?Blizzard announced that Diablo 3, originally slated to arrive in 2011, would be held until early 2012 ? enough time for the developer to polish up the gameplay.?

"[T]his week we pulled together people from all of the teams involved with the game to decide whether we felt it would be ready before the end of December, and we grudgingly came to the conclusion that it would not," a Blizzard exec wrote at the time. "Ultimately, we feel that to deliver an awesome Diablo sequel that lives up to our expectations and yours as well, we should take a little more time and add further polish to a few different elements of the game."

Since then, Blizzard has finalized a May 15 North America launch date for Diablo 3.?

This week comes news that Blizzard will stage an open beta event for Diablo 3, a kind of "stress test" for the forthcoming fantasy title. VentureBeat?reports?that the beta test will extend from Friday afternoon to 1 p.m. EST on Monday. Anyone with a valid?Battle.net account is invited to play (excepting folks in the?Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau markets, who are getting a separate beta event, on April 23).

You can get started here.?

Diablo 3, like Diablo 2 and the original Diablo, will take place in the the murky, shadowy world of Sanctuary. Among the playable character classes are the newly-introduced "monks" ? "priest-warriors who follow the divine injunctions of their Patriarchs, the rulers of Ivgorod," according to Blizzard. Sounds like some good, geeky fun to us.?

Samsung's Unpacked Mobile 2012 app outs 'Galaxy S3' as next smartphone's name

unpacked galaxy s3

Up until now, we haven't actually had any confirmation of what Samsung's upcoming superphone would be named. We've had plenty of reason to believe that it'd simply be the third iteration of the famed Galaxy S line, and even an Amazon Germany page predicting as much, but it's another thing entirely to see the term "Galaxy S3" used by Samsung itself. Indeed, that's exactly what's happening with the release of its Mobile Unpacked 2012 app, which will allow prospective users to stream the event as it happens in London on May 3rd, while also gathering facts and figures once the event passes. Whether or not the whole GSIII thing sticks remains to be seen, but if you're curious, we'll also be on hand to liveblog every revealing second of it.
