What do you do when it is raining outside and it is time to find a way to keep the kids entertained? Well what goes better with kids than games?
In today?s fast paced highly electronic world we tend to be all right with letting our kids plop down in front of the TV either to watch or to play one of the many gaming systems available. Now I?m not saying there is anything wrong with gaming systems, but like anything too much isn?t good either. We tend to forget the fun times we had as youngsters playing board games with our family and friends.
What I am suggesting is to re-introduce those classic kids games to your children. What better way to practice spelling than to play a game of Scrabble. There are so many versions and age appropriate styles that you are sure to find one that fits the bill. I guarantee that your kids won?t even realize they are brushing up on their spelling; they will be having so much fun.
If Scrabble isn?t their thing how about Sorry? I don?t know any siblings that wouldn?t get a kick out of knocking their brother or sister back to start. And just think they will be practicing counting, strategizing, and communication skills without even knowing it.
Another one of the kids games my family enjoys is Life. Talk about learning some valuable life lessons. When have you ever heard a ten year old talk about paying off his school loans or taking out a mortgage? We love this game, and I love the fact that it teaches them the value of money among several other things.
So when the weather gets rough outside bring out the board games and spend some quality family time.
