Las Vegas Shows That Stand The Test Of Time

Article Directory :: Travel & Leisure Articles

The Las Vegas shows are renowned the world over as the places where the top stars of show business can be seen. It probably began in the 1960s with super stars such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Liberace, the sort of people who gave credence to Las Vegas' self-styled accolade "The Entertainment Capital of the World". The shows have kept pace with the change in popularity of the world's major celebrities and nowadays you can marvel at the talents of Britney Spears and Andrea Bocelli, to name just two. Some shows and entertainers just seem to go on and on, however, and here is just a taste of some evergreen favourites whose popularity shows no signs of abating.

Playing at the Alexis Park Resort Hotel is the comedy show, "Jest Serendipity". This show was an innovator when it first appeared about eleven years ago, by pitting two teams of comedians against each other in a battle of wits to see which team will out-improvise the other. This performance is all about audience participation as members of the audience shout out suggestions for the performers to follow. The show is probably not suitable for young people as some of the suggestions can be a little bit raunchy, however, it never becomes offensive.

The growth of the celebrity tribute type of show has been extraordinary as performers try to re-enact the excitement of performers who are not around to entertain us anymore. The longest-running show of this nature in the world, "Legends In Concert", has been thrilling fans on the Las Vegas Strip for 28 years. The show is now located at Harrah's Showroom and is available twice nightly for six days a week.

Of course, as the real celebrities come and go, the Legends In Concert show changes to keep pace. Old favourites from the past mingle with the superstars of today in this nostalgia driven performance. The current line-up at the time of writing includes Stevie Wonder, Bobby Darin, Brittney Spears and Michael Jackson. The roster of stars changes every few months but one artist who, among all others, will always be featured here is the one and only Elvis.

Speaking of Elvis, if you don't catch a sight of him walking around Vegas you must be going around with your eyes shut. There are Elvis impersonators driving limos, conducting wedding ceremonies and performing in shows. Perhaps the best known and longest-performing of them all is "Big Elvis", aka as Pete Valle. Pete won The Best Elvis Impersonator award in 2006 and has been going from strength to strength ever since.

Currently he is appearing at Bill's Gambling Hall and Saloon on four afternoons per week. Perhaps his rapport with the audience, encouraging participation and inviting special requests, is what has contributed to his popularity. Unfortunately this show isn't suitable for under 21s.

I hope that the above very small selection of the longest-running shows of their type will have whetted your appetite for more. Why not pay a visit to your Las Vegas travel specialist and see what they have to offer, and book your show at the same time as your holiday.
